Trustee Vacancy at Weymouth Town Charities
Weymouth Town Charities has a trustee vacancy due to the retirement of trustees by rotation. The charity would like to hear from anyone who would like to be considered as a trustee of the organisation that runs local charities.
The board of trustees manages charitable funds dating back to 1666 (and beyond). The organisation is spilt into two main groups of charities – The Sir Samuel Mico Charities which provide scholarships, educational and development grants to around 100 young people under 25 years of age each year, and The Sir Henry Edwards Charities which provides low cost housing to older local people who cannot afford to own, or rent a property.
The trustee position is honorary and does not attract any remuneration. Trustees need to reside, or have occupation. or employment in, or special knowledge of Weymouth and Portland.
No specific qualifications or skills are needed as trustees want the board to have a wide range of skills and experience, but an interest in any of the following topics would be particularly welcome:
· property management and maintenance
· education and development of young people
· finance and budgeting
· charity management, or previous trustee experience
Gary Hepburn Chairman of trustees said: ” being a trustee of Weymouth Town Charities is very special as we are entrusted with the legacies of two significant local historical figures. The trustees
manage funds and property left by Sir Samuel Mico in 1666 for the advancement of local young people and property built and gifted by Sir Henry Edwards in the 1880’s for older local people who can no longer afford to put a roof over their head. It is a real privilege to be able to continue the good management of the funds and assets of these two local benefactors that have supported local people for hundreds of years and to be able to make a real difference to local people.
