I have had another really good week at the surgery! I spent some more time at the reception desk where I was able to see interactions with the patients and was also able to give out prescriptions and take in deliveries.

I was also given a project which I will work on in the next couple of weeks based around prostate cancer. In starting this I was given a log-in for the system used to access medical records and am currently gathering data using this.

I also spent a day at the partner surgery (Royal Crescent Surgery) to see how things are run differently there. During the day there I did some sorting of patient notes as I had previously learnt.

As well as doing the prostate cancer project using the computer system, I learnt how to access records of deceased patients and to organise their paper notes before they are removed from the surgery’s system.

Finally, on the last day I helped clear out a desk which was previously used by the district nurses which involved checking supplies such as bandages, syringes etc. for expiry dates to ensure they are still safe for use.

Next week I hope to start sitting in on some doctor’s consultations.
