Grant Application Form

PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE APPLYING FOR A GRANT

Who can apply for a grant:

  • Applications can only be made by individuals (we can not accept applications from organisations, or to fund organisations).
  • Applications must be made by the applicant themselves and have the applicants personal contact details.
  • Applicants must not have reached 25 years of age (they must be 24 years old or younger).
  • Applicants must be resident in the Weymouth & Portland area (DT3, DT4 & DT5 postcode areas).
  • Applicants must not have applied to the charity within the previous six months.

The trustees expect as a condition of awarding a grant recipients will keep in touch with the charity and let us know how things are going. If we do not hear from you, we may send you a reminder. Sir Samuel Mico decreed in his will in 1666 that the trustees and beneficiaries should meet on the Friday before Palm Sunday each year, to attend a short service and then have a reception afterwards where the beneficiaries can update the trustees on their progress. If you are awarded a grant you will receive an invitation to the annual Sir Samuel Mico commemoration and we request that you make every effort to attend.

Please complete the form fully, the more information we have the easier it is for us to assess your application, fields marked * must be completed to be able to submit your form.

Guidance on grants and completing the application

  • Our grants are for the purposes of education, personal development or the gaining of skills (through college, university,  courses or apprenticeships, or other activities), and/or equipment required in the pursuit of this
  • We want to know exactly what  you want help with ie the details, items costs etc, or how specifically a grant from the charity will assist. Please don’t just ask for some money to help with the overall cost of what you are doing
  • We want to know what you are doing yourself to help (have you saved up or are you working part time, what will you contribute )
  • We are unable to consider grant applications for those attending trips or expeditions where large numbers from the Weymouth & Portland area will attend such as “World Challenge” unless there are very special circumstances supported by a school, academy or college Head Teacher/Principal.
  • We are not able to pay off loans, personal debts, fund household appliances or fund the cost of normal living at home, not associated with education, personal development or skills.
  • We can not fund, cars, motorcycles or the maintenance or insuring of them
  • We can not fund someone’s business activities or the starting up of a business
  • Please read the questions on the grant form and provide full answers to them, ie if you are working or undertaking an apprenticeship, tell us who the employer is etc, if you are at college or university, tell us which one and what the title of the course is, how many years the study is and what year you are on
  • The quality of the information on the grant form is important to enable us to assess it and make a decision. Poor quality applications are unlikely to be successful
  • Think what supporting information would be useful to supply to us with your application. This can be uploaded at the end of the form , this could be anything to support your grant application such as: a letter of support from employer, school, college or university ; evidence of enrolment on a course; a quotation for equipment; a report from school, college or university; copies of certificates or awards;  photos relevant to your activity or application; a letter of support or record of achievement from a sports organisation or club
  • Please allow up to 8 weeks for grants to be considered
  • If you are in financial difficulty the following organisations may be able to help you, or give you advice:

If applying in connection to an academic course (university or college) please do not apply more than 10 weeks before you will take up the place. You may also be required to provide evidence of your offer and plans to take up your place on the course.

Trips or Expeditions

If you are applying for help with a school trip or expedition please do not apply earlier than 12 months before the trip or expedition and please note we are only able to help those most in need. We will therefore need an accompanying letter of support from the head or deputy headteacher/principal or expedition leader.
